Job Description

Maintains and operates punch press, cross hole machines, and lathes to produce machined parts with tight tolerances. Follow standard work methods and practice safe work habits to ensure production is as efficient, high-quality and as safe as possible.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Study blueprints, drawings, or specifications, to determine dimensions and tolerances of finished work piece.
  • Operates lathe, punch press and cross hole machines, making necessary adjustments to machines or tools to produce parts with tight tolerances. Consults with lead or supervisor with challenges.
  • Verifies finished work piece conforms to specifications using precision measuring instruments.
  • Accurately and clearly complete all required documentation.
  • Reports all problems to supervisor or lead.
  • Maintain the work area and equipment in a clean and orderly condition and follows prescribed safety regulations.
  • Willingness to work and follow instructions, cooperative attitude toward co-workers and supervisors.
  • Will work alone and in a team environment with changing assignments.
  • Other duties as requested, directed or assigned.

Skills / Requirements

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

  • Minimum of high school education or General Education Diploma (GED)
  • 2+ years of experience with machine operation.
  • Must be able to read and interpret blueprints and drawings.
  • Ability to handle multiple tasks and prioritize accordingly.
  • Must have a good command of the English language, both written and verbal.
  • Must have ability to do all shop math functions associated with inspection procedures.
  • Must have excellent hand-eye coordination and be able to perform repetitive motion.

 JOB KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

  • Following established methods and procedures, must be able to perform, but not limited to the following operations necessary for machine operation while maintaining rigid quality: measuring, hand tool operations and machine operation
  • Ability to pay close attention to detail and quality while performing repetitive tasks
  • Must be willing and able to communicate both verbally and in writing with supervisor of job status, work load, problems and progress.

 SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • This is not a supervisory position.  

 PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

  • Medium physical effort equal to frequent lifting or moving of lightweight materials
  • Regularly lift and/or move up to 25 pounds, and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds with assistance, as required
  • Use hand/fingers continuously through shift to manipulate tools, materials, etc.
  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust focus
  • Regularly required to sit or stand for the length of shift. Also to bend and reach when moving material.

 PERSONAL PROTECTIVE EQUIPMENT:

  • The use of Safety Glasses is required
  • Work around moving machinery-required not to wear any loose/dangling articles of clothing or jewelry which could get entangled in machines
  • Other equipment as needed by specific machines.

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

  • Work performed in a shop environment.
  • Exposed to any number of elements but with none present to the extent of being disagreeable.
  • May work at different machines as production needs require, or shifts from one station to another.
